Essential Oil Scent Combination Ideas

I love for things to smell good, and in using essential oils you can boost mood, set a relaxing environment (like for autumn or spring), or even help improve memory, so using them to naturally bring scents into your home is a win-win.

If you have not read it yet, please check out my post on Essential Oil Safety. The Hippy Homemaker link there has a list of oils that are safe for babies, kids and pregnant woman. Please check before using oils. They can cause serious problems if not used properly.

There should be some special considerations depending on the makeup of your home. If you have young children, you want to be sure to use oils that are safe for them.

If you are pregnant or nursing, you need to avoid certain oils.

When finding a scent combination you like, always add just a drop or two of oil and check the scent before proceeding.

Some oils (ylang ylang, rosemary, mints are stronger than say lemon or vanilla, so keep this in mind when mixing as well).

Here are some ideas to get your imagination (and nose!) going…

I tend to lean toward fruity, but I have tried to include some other ideas.
Citrus oil (Bergamot, Orange, Lemon, Lime, Tangerine) are all nice and work well on their own and fairly well together
Lavender (and Lemon)
Basil (and Lime)
Rosemary* Lavender
Lemon Clove*
Clove* Orange
Lemon, Lime, Basil
Lavender and Mint*
Orange Rosemary*

Mint* Lime
Lemon Balm* Vanilla
