Taz: Adrenal Recovery Soup

This is a recipe that I found a couple of years ago and love making. It is a wonderful, nourishing soup that provides many of the minerals our bodies need desperately.
Originally from “Balancing body chemistry with nutrition” seminars by Dorthy S Downey.
I have modified the recipe a bit to how I make it.
It is so simple, and tasty as well.
Taz, or Adrenal Recovery Soup is a simple, nourishing soup to give your body what it needs. #soup #adrenalfatigue #nourish #realfood #gourmet #recipe

Taz Soup (Adrenal Recovery Soup)

  • 16 ounces green beans, cut into bite sized bits
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 zucchini*, sliced
  • 1 medium onion*, chopped
  • 1 16 can tomato* diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup spring water (I use filtered water)
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 pound uncured smoked beef sausage, uncured ham chunks, or two chicken breast cut into bite sized bits
  • Pepper to taste

Prepare ingredients. In a large pot, combine ingredients and simmer for about an hour, or until the veggies are tender.
One of my children does not like eating green veggies, but happily ate this and asked for more.
Great for when you are really stressed or sick to help your body get on the mend faster.
*Since this is about getting minerals and helping our bodies recover, these ingredients I highly recommend making sure that you get organic.

The 2018 Ultimate Healthy Living Bundle

{This post contains affiliate links. This means that the price that you pay does not change, but I earn a small commission if you purchase through my links.}
The Ultimate Healthy Living Bundles are one of my favorite Ultimate Bundles each year. They offer some amazing resources each year, all in one place, at a great discount.
Ultimate Healthy Living Bundle 2018
This year, there are so many resources that we will use. I was going to highlight all of the ones that I think we will use, but then I would be highlighting about 98% of it. I have left a few highlighted.
As you can see, Water Wellness and The Women’s Health Master Class are each three times the price of the bundle.  Even if I was interested in one of those alone it would make this bundle worth it.
Earlier this week I shared about how to tell if a bundle would be worth the price, you can take a peek at that and the product list below and see for yourself it you think it would be worth it for your family.

What Is Included in The Bundle This Year?

Have you ever utilized an ultimate bundle as a resource? What resource are you most excited about this year?

The 2018 Ultimate Healthy Living Bundle

{This post contains affiliate links. This means that the price that you pay does not change, but I earn a small commission if you purchase through my links.}

Are Ultimate Bundles Really Worth It?

Today I am sharing about one of my favorite resources, Ultimate Bundles.

What are Ultimate Bundles?

Ultimate Bundles are bundles of amazing resources on various subjects at discounts of around 98%. From healthy living, to parenting, to homemaking, to name a few of the subjects covered by the bundles.

How does it work?

You purchase your bundle and you instantly have access to the resources and bonuses included in the bundle. You must download them within a year, but they are yours forever. Usually the bonuses must claimed within a month or so.

Are Ultimate Bundles worth it?

There are so many resources that usually people don’t even use them all, so why did invest in something when you only use a few things from it?
The best way to see if it would be worth it is to sit down with the list of resources in the bundle that you are interested in and make a list of resources that you would use, and the price that you would pay outside of the bundle. If the resources that you would use are worth more than the bundle price it than it would be a good investment. If not, then maybe it’s not for you.
Usually the bonuses alone make it worth the price of the bundle, and there are several resources that are twice the price of the bundle that I use, so it is well worth it for us.
Have you ever checked out Ultimate Bundles?
Right now (11/5/18-11/6/18) there is a flash sale on the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle! Get it before it’s gone!

A big thank you to all of the contributors that have helped give me a bit of a break this summer!

The Kingdom of the Journey

Sharing the journey #testimony #journey #allergies #trust #jesus @gosdchicki
Just before my husband and I got engaged, we went to a Christian conference at the time (Soul Survivor UK) and there was a fantastic talk on “The kingdom of now and not yet” which we took great comfort in, especially as my father-in-law was very ill at the time.

The talk encouraged us that God’s will will be done. That when we seek and petition Him with our prayers He always answers, whether we hear and see a yes or a no, or a not yet. He is invested in our situation and His will will be done in our lives and our healing, even if that manifests as a “not yet” because His healing can come in death when we join Him. He always gives an answer, even if it’s not the one we want or expect.

We took comfort in this when we lost my father-in-law, we took comfort in this when we had our eldest son and then when I was hospitalised because my gallbladder ruptured. We have continued to take comfort in this with the trials and tribulations life has thrown at us.

When we had our second son his health was never quite right, from irregular stools from 4 days old, to eczema following his vaccinations which turned out to be symptomatic of an immune hypersensitivity triggered and exacerbated by them. This began a challenging voyage into identifying why his immune system was haywire, and how we could support his healing. Then came identifying the dozens upon dozens of food and environmental triggers that can causing anything from flushing to anaphylaxis.

There are few things in life as scary as holding your 18m old in your arms as their lips turn blue because of respiratory distress, triggered by a dust-mite allergy.

Before that reaction we had felt God speak to us as a family and assure us that this would not be to the death, but for the journey.

Though, when your child is being starved of oxygen before your eyes the fears slip in…

…what if I misunderstood God.

…what if our journey includes caring for a child that is neurological or otherwise damaged from oxygen deprivation?

We don’t know what our journey’s will hold. But we can trust in God.

For we know He works for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes.

Which brings me back to the kingdom of the journey…

God has gifted us with free will, and the responsibility of stewardship of the dominion He has put us in. As a global scale we have neglected and abused this responsibility, now our collective health is suffering.

We live in a world plagued by illnesses, autoimmune diseases, neurological conditions and mental health disorders, cancers and so much more. Our bodies don’t function in the way they should because our environment, stressors, medications and nutrition have manipulated our genetic expression to make us more prone to being ill. We have entered the first generation that predict children won’t live as long as their parents.

This is not progress.

So, it’s our responsibility to bring the kingdom in our journeys.

People share testimonies all the time of salvation and healing, which – Hallelujah – is worth rejoicing over; BUT we need to bring our testimonies of the journey.

That salvation isn’t the end of our transformation, that miraculous healing isn’t the only kind worth talking about. We need to share our lives testimony. Through the ups and downs, battles with the normative practices that have played such a huge role in the condition of our world and health. We need to bring God’s glory back and rejoice in His kingdom where we are.

Be the change you want to see in the world, is a cliche for a reason. But we are called to lead by example, in our faith, which should include our stewardship of our health and our environment both close to us and on a global scale.

The Kingdom of the journey, to me, is trusting God’s will and plan for our lives, because even though miracles do happen, the bigger witness can be to bring glory and healing through the trials and stewardship of our lives.

Non-Toxic DIY Pedicure

Tomorrow is National Flip Flop Day, are your feet ready? Here is a quick guide to the perfect natural pedicure.
How to get your feet ready for flip flop season, or just pamper yourself a bit, while ditching the toxic products. #flipflop #pedicure #diy #nontoxic #natural #greenmama #naturalbeauty #beauty #nails @godschicki

DIY Pedicure

  • Remove old polish.
  • Soak feet 20-30 minutes in nice, hot water (careful not to burn yourself) and your choice of foot soak (I have a post with some here). For an added nice touch, put some marbles in the bottom of the bowl that you use so that you can roll your feet around and give them a massage while you wait.
  • Exfoliate. I use a rasp first to get the bulk of the dead skin off because I usually wait until it is pretty tough. Then I use a pumice stone to refine tough spots a bit more. Last I use a nice foot scrub (like my honey sugar or lovely lemon scrubs) all over, paying special attention to any spots left, or that I could not get with the rasp or stone very well (like around my big toe nail).
  • Apply and massage in cuticle oil (you can find my recipe here), then use stick or a wash cloth to push cuticles back a bit.
  • Trim nails, then file corners so that they do not become ingrown or snag things.
  • Buff nail beds. You can use a nice buffer that will leave a great shine for a natural look, or…
  • Paint your nails. I just shared a post on how to get a great paint job with Piggy Paint here.
  • Apply a nice, thick lotion or body butter. Moisture socks are a nice touch to keep lotion on and enhance its effectiveness.

Have you ever given yourself a pedicure?

Piggy Paint

Friday (June 15th) is National FlipFlop Day, so I am sharing my favorite way to pretty up my toesies.
I love having my toe nails painted. When we started our natural living journey I wondered if I would ever be able to have my toesies all pretty again-your nails and skin do absorb a lot. Then I found Piggy Paint.
It is water based and it is free of formaldehyde, toluene, phthalates, Bisphenol A, ethyl acetate, and acetone- ingredients that have been linked to many health issues yet are found in a lot of polishes out there. There are over 30 colors to choose from as well.
I was a bit skeptical of how well it would hold up at first, but it has actually lasted me much longer than the one professional pedicure that I have had!

How to Get Great Results From Your Piggy Paint

Remember, when applying polishes, use three strokes of your brush and always go just under the tip of the nail as well as the nail bed.
Using the base and top coats is the key to getting the most out of your polish. It adds layers of chip and scratch resistance.

  • Remove any old polish.
  • Wash hands/feet and nails.
  • Apply an even layer of base coat and allow to dry to the touch (does not take very long).
  • Apply 2-3 even coats of color desired. Use a blow dryer on warm/low heat to dry for 60 seconds between coats for added chip resistance.
  • If you want to use any nail decals, now is the time to add those.
  • Apply coat of top coat and use blow dryer for 60 seconds.
  • Apply coat of base coat for added sealing and protection.

It takes a bit more work, but it does last quite a while on the toesies, and it is non-toxic, so it is something that I feel okay with using on my nails, as well as my little girlie’s nails.

There are some other cleaner brands of nail polish out there, but I do not have any experience with those. Perhaps in the future I will give them a shot and let you know!

Do you like painting your nails? Have you ever thought about what is in your nail polish? Have you tried Piggy Paint?

3 Cheap and Easy Foot Soaks

A simple foot soak is a lovely way to relax, make aching feet feel better & soften calluses before you use a pumice stone. It is an important part of a good pedicure.
You will need a large bowl or dish pan that your feet will fit into (at the same time). When you heat your water (or run it from the tap), it’s easier to let it cool down more than heating it up again, but you want to be able to comfortably let your feet soak, so not too hot.

3 Cheap, Easy Foot Soaks #naturalbeauty #diy #pamper #spa #pedicure #footsoak #natural @godschicki
After soaking, you can use rasp and/or pumice stone (I use the rasp first, then the stone-but if your feet are not very callused you can just use the pumice stone) and a scrub (you can make one- I have recipes for honey lemon or  lovely lemon scrubs, or I love JR Watkins Sugar and Shea Butter Scrub). Whatever you use, use in a circular motion, giving special attention to tougher spots.
Here are three very easy, inexpensive ways to do it.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey Soak

  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 gallon very warm/hot water (not too hot-you don’t want to burn your feet)

Combine water and ACV, let your feet soak 30 minutes.

Peppermint Tea Foot Soak

  • 4 peppermint teabags
  • 1/2 gallon of hot water (hot enough to steep your tea)
  • 1/2 cool water

Bring 1/2 gallon of water to boil, once it’s boiling, remove from heat. Add tea bags and let steep 8 minutes. Add cool water and test to make sure it’s cool enough to soak feet in. Soak for 30 minutes.

Epsom Salt Foot Soak

  • 1 cup of Epsom salt
  • 1 gallon warm water

Combine water and Epsom salt. Soak for 30 minutes.

Natural Ways to Clean the Air in Your Home

Indoor air quality is important for our health. It is an important part of our health, and as such, the stewardship of our bodies.

Ways To Clean The Air InYour Home

The EPA says:

“Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. Concentrations of many VOCs are consistently higher indoors (up to ten times higher) than outdoors. VOCs are emitted by a wide array of products numbering in the thousands…. (Paints, varnishes and wax all contain organic solvents, as do many cleaning, disinfecting, cosmetic, degreasing and hobby products)”

According to the EPA, indoor air can contain 2-5 times more pollutants than outdoor air-regardless of if it is an urban or country community.

Here are some small steps that you can take to help clean the air in your home.

{This post contains affiliate links. This means that the price that you pay does not change, but I get a small commission when you make a purchase through my links}

Cut The Conventional Air Fresheners

They contain formaldehyde, petroleum distillates, 1,4 dichlorobenzene and aerosol propellants, as well as other questionable ingredients, many of which there are no known safe levels for. There are a lot of great ways to make your home smell good naturally.

Switch to Natural Cleaners

Cleaners are a huge source of toxins in household air. Switching to naturally fragranced, and plant based products can help. Fabric softeners are a big one. There are many cleaners that you can make at home. I hope to make share some more of the ones that I use in the future. I highly recommend The Organically Clean Home by Becky Rapinchuk. I also recommend running ingredient through Ingredio to help make sure that they are safe.

Open Up The Windows

Opening up the house when the weather allows is a great way to get clean air in.

Salt Lamps

Himalayan salt lamps are good for a lot of things. For their many benefits you can check out this post by Wellness Mama. One of its benefits is to help clean the air.

Moso Bag

“Made of just one incredibly powerful natural ingredient, moso bamboo charcoal, the Moso Bag is continuously working to effectively absorb and remove odors, allergens and harmful pollutants and to clean and freshen the air. “

Beeswax Candles

Beeswax candles burn very cleanly, releasing negative ions into the air. The negative ions can bond with toxins and allergens like dust and dander and effectively remove them from the air.

Paraffin and soy candles release benzene, toluene, soot and other chemicals into the air.

They are easily made, but I do love these from Quiet Light Candles.

Get Some Houseplants

Houseplants are a great way to clean the air in your home, removing benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, toluene, ammonia, alcohols, carbon monoxide, and acetone, as well as putting more oxygen in the air.

Diffusing Essential Oils

Essential oils such as cinnamon, oregano, rosemary, thyme, grapefruit lemon, clove, tea tree, pine needle, and eucalyptus have been shown effective at killing viruses, fungi, bacteria and even mold. Before using any essential oil, please be sure to check that they are safe to use around children, pets, or pregnant or nursing women if any of those are in your household. Diffusing essential oils is an effective way to use them.
