Homemade vs Store Bought
Homemade sauces are much healthier than their store bought counter parts, and despite what many believe, are quite easy to make.
This is a quick and easy (and healthier) version of taco sauce. Much of what you will find in the stores is loaded with high fructose corn syrup and other junk. This recipe gets back to the basics, using ingredients likely have on hand.
Taco Sauce
- 15 oz can of no salt added organic* tomato sauce
- 1/2 c water
- 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 3 tsp cumin
- 3 tsp onion powder
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 2/3 tsp sugar
Mix all ingredients in a medium saucepan and simmer on low for 20 minutes. Serve with tacos, nachos, TexMex pizza…the possibilities are many!
*Tomatoes are one of the dirty dozen, so I always try to do them organic.
