This is hand-down the best onion dip I have had, and it is so easy!

dip with chips

My sister started making this a few years ago and shared her knowledge with me. The last time she visited I made her measure ingredients!

This tastes very much like what you would find in the stores marked onion dip, but without all of the questionable (msg, modified starches, corn and soy products to name a few) ingredients. It makes a great veggie dip and my children love it!

Abbi’s Onion Dill Dip

  • 16 Ounces Sour Cream (I like to use cultured sour cream)
  • 1 teaspoon dill weed
  • 1 teaspoon fine pink sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder (not granulated onion please!)

Mix all of your ingredients and stick in the refrigerator for at least an hour if you can. It really allows the onion flavor to develope.

My Notes

Waiting is the hardest part, but it really brings the flavor to another level entirely.

You can definitely scale the recipe up, and if you go through veggies like we do you may want to!

I have not tried making this with greek yogurt, and while it would alter the flavor a bit, I think it would turn out okay-just make sure it it plain yogurt and not vanilla!

Serve with veggies (carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, bell pepper, celery, etc) instead of ranch dip, with chips, pretzels, or even put on chicken breast before popping them in the oven!

Make a great party, potluck, game day (or night), or any day really snack. And, because you are using clean ingredients, you can truly enjoy this dip guilt free. Just be careful about what you are dipping. Going crazy on veggies is one thing, but if you are dipping chips just watch out!

A big thank you to my sister, Abbi, for sharing her recipe, making it for family get togethers at my request, measuring the recipe, and generally putting up with me as a sister!

Pinterest has a plethora of veggie tray ideas if you need inspiration!

Onion dip not your thing? Try some guacamole.
