Detoxing Avocado Salad

Avocado Salad

Detoxing is quite the buzzword right now. Here’s the deal though, your body detoxes on it’s own.

Yes, there are times that we have been exposed to a higher toxic load and need help with detoxing, but overall your body does a great job of it.

That said, there are foods that help your body do its detoxing.

The ingredients in this salad are helpful for detoxing.

My children will eat a lot of this. I mean, a lot. They are veggie lovers, as I shared in my Veggie Cup post.

Avocado

nutritional powerhouses lower cholesterol and dilate blood vessels while blocking artery-destroying toxicity. Avocados contain a nutrient called glutathione, which blocks at least thirty different carcinogens while helping the liver detoxify synthetic chemicals.

Lime Juice

Limes stimulate greater secretion of bile which improves digestion. Regular consumption of lemon and lime juice will help you get rid of the toxins and harmful substances in your body and prevent digestive disorders.

Salt

So this is the one ingredient that does not appear to have any properties that help your body detox, other than if you do a salt water flush, or bathe in it.

Black Pepper

It can also help promote sweating and urination shedding away water weight. Sweating helps your body release some of it’s stored toxins, as well as foreign bacteria and cells from your pores that were previously lodged there.

It also helps your body absorb more of the nutrients in the salad.

The salad is great for digestion and wonderful after heavy meals.

Detoxing Avocado Salad

  • 4-6 Roma Tomatoes*
  • 1-2 Cucumbers*
  • 1 medium to large sweet onion
  • 3-4 large avocados
  • 4 Tablespoons avocado oil
  • 4 Tablespoons fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 1 good size bunch of cilantro
  • 1-1 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

Dice tomatos, cucumbers, onion, and avocado into bits that are bite-sized.

In a bowl, mix lime juice, avocado oil, salt, and fresh cracked pepper.

Combine all ingredients and make sure salad is well coated. Serve.

Notes

If you plan on serving later, hold off on cutting the avocado. The oil and lime juice help keep it from browning too badly, but it does look nicer if you wait until shortly before serving to cut it.

I am not usually a fan of cilantro, but it really does take this recipe to the next level.

You could also add some finely grate garlic for an extra kick and more detoxing benefits.

*I do try to do these organic.
