Nesting and The Aprons and Pearls Linkup

Nesting is in full swing here. With less than two weeks left until our official due date (I really do not put much stock in the estimated due date, but it is nearing the end of the pregnancy), I have had more energy and drive than I have in a long time.
While there is still plenty of decluttering to do, I have felt more motivated to clean random stuff (because baby will care if my pots and pans are organized or the tea pots from great-grandmother are dusted!), so I have had to redirect at least a little bit.
I have not decided for sure, but once baby comes, I will likely not post much more this year. I am planning on setting up the Aprons and Pearls Linkup to continue in my general absence.
On to the linkup!

100 Days of Real Food Fast and Fabulous @godschicki
If you have spent much time around my blog at all, you have probably picked up on the fact that I am big on real foods. That is why I am so excited to be selected as an ambassador for Lisa Leake’s new book, 100 Days of Real Food: Fast & Fabulous [Affiliate Link], which comes out tomorrow.
I love this recipe and see us making it a lot in the future! Extremely quick and easy to make, this recipe is gluten and nut free as well as vegetarian.
Great to dip veggies or crackers, or use on sandwiches or roll ups (with cucumber slices, or left over sliced chicken or turkey).
This recipe does require a food processor, I only have a mini one, but it was still pretty easy, I simply did the veggies one at a time and then mixed everything in a bowl with a mixer. If you do not have a food processor, you could probably grate the veggies and mix them up…
Veggie Cream Cheese 100 Days of Real Food @godschicki

Veggie Cream Cheese

  • 1 carrot, peeled and cut into large chunks
  • 1/4 cucumber, skin on, cut into large chunks
  • 2 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 1 green onion, white and green parts, roughly chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • One 8-ounce package cream cheese, at room temperature

In the food processor, combine everything but the cream cheese and pulse until finely chopped.

Drop the cream cheese into the veggie mix and pulse until well combined. Serve or store in the fridge for up to 4 days.

More About The Book

In 100 Days Fast & Fabulous, Lisa shares some tasty, quick recipes proving that real food doesn’t have to take forever to cook. She also shares some helpful information on buying real foods (including her typical grocery list-by store), when homemade or homegrown is really worth it, food prep and storage ideas and meal plans.
There’s a total of 100 recipes-75 that you will only find in 100 Days of Real Food Fast and Fabulous-not even on the 100 Days of Real Food blog.
Fast and Fabulous includes a great break down chart in the back letting you know quickly which recipes are freezer friendly, gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian or nut free. Here’s how they break down.
chart

  • 85 recipes are (or can easily be) Gluten Free
  • 52 recipes are (or can easily be) Dairy Free
  • 69 recipes are (or can easily be) Vegetarian
  • 85 recipes are (or can easily be) Peanut / Tree Nut Free
  • 35 recipes are Freeze Friendly-so you can still give your family real food when busy times are coming

This greatly reduces the time I have to take combing through recipes to find gluten free ones and takes the guess work out of figuring out what freezes well!
There is still a bit of time to preorder it, which will get you a great discount. Instead of the list price of $29.99, you can score it for just $16.50 on Amazon! Hurry, it can go up at anytime. You can order your copy here [affiliate link]. As of 2 pm November 21st, 2016, it is still  $16.50.
If you want to start your family on a healthier lifestyle on real food, but think you do not have the time, this book is for you! Know someone looking to make real food for their families? This would be a great Christmas present!
Do you fix real foods? What are some of your favorite cookbooks?

Outings & The Aprons & Pearls Link-up

I have been thinking about our week, and for some reason, when we are out for a few hours, I seem to write that day off as far as doing stuff around the house….
Example, 3’s Storytime this round started at 11, we leave around 10 so the kids can play before and we can pick out books, we get ready around 9:30, so when I get up at 6, there’s some time before we leave. We get back between 12:30-1, so there is plenty of time after. Granted, there are meals and diaper changes in there, but there’s really a lot of time I could use.
I really need to get my head around this….I know that sometimes it is because by the time we’re home I’m worn out, but part of it might be that I have no real aim that day other than our outing….
So this week I am tentatively planning things before and after…writing them out on my weekly overview. I might not be up to all of it by the time we get back, but I need to use the “awkward pauses” Nony of a Slob Comes Clean talks about…(you can check out that podcast here)
I listened to that podcast a good while back, but it’s not even like I am wondering what to do, I just have written the day off….
Just some randomness from me trying to figure things out….
On to the linkup!

Revamped Aprons & Pearls Link-up

After much prayer and some helpful feedback from past participants, I have made a few changes to the link-up. I hope that it helps others find us and encourages more participation.

   The Aprons & Pearls Link-up

“While in all places and at all times our words should be well chosen, and should be full of the pure and gentle Spirit of Christ-there are many reasons why the home conversation, pre-eminently, should be loving. Home is the place for warmth and tenderness: it should be made the brightest and sweetest spot on earth, to the who dwell within its walls. We should all carry there our very best moods, tempers, and dispositions. Especially by our speech should we seek to contribute to the enrichment of the home life, helping to make it elevating and refining, and in every way ennobling in its influence.”

Peculiar A Lesson From Beauty & The Beast

Peculiar A Lesson From Beauty & The Beast @godschicki
Little girlie is a bit in love with the Disney movie, Beauty and the Beast. She has been walking around belting out bits and pieces of the songs for a couple of weeks now.
Have you seen it? Remember the part where Belle is walking through her town and everyone is singing about what an odd duck she is? How she does fit in? That she’s nothing like them? Her head is in the clouds?
I was thinking about it, and that is really how Christ followers should be seen.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;  for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercyBeloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.  Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.

1 Peter 2:9-12

I have shared a few times (Getting Drunk, Grace Filled Speech, What You Eat Matters, Feeding Your Soul, With Every Breath, Imitating, Putting on Love
on how we should be different.  It is something I am very passionate about.
If there’s no difference between us and the rest of the world, what is the point? (I am not alone in my frustration, in Galatians,  Paul calls out Cephas for being no different than Gentiles. While the picture there is Jew/Gentile, I think it is equally important for Christ followers to be different from those who do not know the Lord.)
Christianity in the Western world is watered down to the point of danger. It’s all about feeling good and prosperity. Sin is a taboo word because we might offend someone. How you live your daily life does not matter.
Our faith is not a real a living part of our lives. Just something done on Sundays and possibly Wednesdays.
I can say this with confidence because IF people who claimed the name of Christ LIVED it the word-Titus 2:11-14, James 2:14-26, Philippians 1 and 2, Ephesians 4 and 5, Colossians 3 and 4, and Galatians 5 and 6 (to name a few Scriptures that specifically touch on how Christ followers should live), if claiming the name of Christ wasn’t just some sort of fire insurance, the world would look much different.

  • We would stand out, being so radically different from the world because we lived the WORD.
  • Our faith would be real and living, not something we put in a box for a certain day or time or place when we take it out to ‘use’ it. We would not be able to contain it.
  • Our faith would affect every little aspect of our daily lives. The choices we make, the media we consume, the things we say and do.
  • Bibles would not be collecting dust on a shelf or coffee table.
  • We would be able to quote Scripture like we quote sports stats or celebrity gossip or the latest plot twist of our favorite tv show or our favorite song lyrics. (And be as excited about sharing what God is doing in our lives with others!)
  • We would be a light for the lost, reaching out to them instead of worrying about offending them or buying into the “to each his own” philosophy.
  • Loneliness would not be the public mental health crisis that is now considered.
  • We would not be so wrapped up in our BUSYness (post on that coming later!) that we do not have time for our brothers and sisters who are struggling.
  • We would take care of the poor instead of thinking they need to get a job when we do not know a thing about them or their struggles or how hard they have tried to make ends meat or thinking someone else will help.
  • Women would teach each other as commanded in Scripture.
  • We would train up our children in the way they should go, teaching them to love the Lord, they would not be leaving the church in such numbers as they are today. (There is still free will, but we have bought into the philosophy that we should not push our beliefs onto our kids. We do not live the difference, lead by example.)
  • Relationships and marriages would not be the disposable things they are seen as. (I am not talking about instances of abuse here, but those who “fall out of love”.)
  • The church would be known for it’s love and not it’s hypocrisy.
  • We would value life as God does.
  • We would be His hands and feet.

:takes deep breath:
Got a little carried away there, but for real people, the Word is full of instructions on how we are to live, and many who claim the name of Christ have no idea, or worse, choose to ignore it.
C.H. Spurgeon once said:

If there is no visible difference between you and the world, depend upon it there is no invisible difference.

Ouch.
Does your life look different than the world’s normal? Does it reflect the light of Christ? Not by empty words, but by how you live your life?
My challenge for you, is to look up these Scriptures and use them as glasses to view your life and walk with Christ. Join me in asking God to reveal short-comings in our lives to us and for the wisdom and strength to make the changes necessary  for our lives to line up with Scripture. For the strength to be peculiar.

Absent

Thanksgiving Memories & Traditions @godschicki
I have been absent from the blog for a while. Trying to put more of those Productivity Tips into action and get the house decluttered. Real life has always taken priority, and it has been not stop as of late.
The house is not quite done yet, though I have made big strides and it is getting much easier to get it to manageable…
The pregnancy is taking its toll…in the home stretch-ish, but I am dragging most days. My blood pressure is creeping up a bit, so I am praying hard that we will be able to birth at home as planned. Hopefully, I will get the house finished the week, get some good sleep and it will be great next week.
I have not officially been put on bedrest, but I am under orders to take it easy…..
It is kind of hard to say if it is the pregnancy (growing a human and/or lovely pregnancy insomnia), chasing two toddlers, adrenal fatigue or burning the candle at both ends trying to get stuff done that has me so worn out.
I am planning several posts (or, at least the ideas for them have been bouncing around in my head for a while), and I really hope to get back to a few posts a week.  Maybe not a hard and fast schedule, but we will see. It is likely that I will be taking a break once baby comes until after the new year. Maybe a post or two in there, but I am not going to stress over it.
The Aprons and Pearls Linkup will return next week, though it will be revamped a bit.
Autumn is here. Well, the pumpkins are out anyway…The weather here is not quite autumn like yet….Today is cool enough to open the windows up and air the house. I love those kinds of days.
Not much of a deep post, but I am planning one for Monday that is a tough one, so, maybe this will balance it out!
