Life Update, Guests Posts, Homeschool Prep, and the Aprons & Pearls Linkup

I completely spaced the linkup last week until Thursday night! We had some family come in Thursday night, so last week was a blur trying to get things done. I do apologize.
It has been busy around here.
We found a curriculum for our homeschooling that will kickoff the Tuesday after Labor Day. It is all a bit overwhelming. I am trying to pin down a schedule. I have never really cared for schedules, but we will definitely need one this autumn. I will likely post more about starting up in a while.
I ventured to the local homeschool book store last week and inquired about Konos curriculum. They had the first volume. They held them for me while I discussed it with hubby. We decided to give it a try. When I went back to get it, the lady brought out volumes 2 & 3. Someone had brought them in to give away. So, for the (discounted) price of one volume, we got all three. They are older editions, so I will be hole punching and putting them in a binder. Because I need another project! But it will be a lot easier to use. The first volume is coming apart.
The children have started karate. Last week was our first week. Two days a week we will end up spending quite a bit of time at our dojo. The children have their classes from about 3:45-4:45. Hubby and I have  Krava Maga classes at 6:45-7:45. So I will be packing dinner for our family to eat there since there is not much time in between and loading and unloading the children into the car is silly.
It really is a great dojo that we have found. It is a Christian business. It actually started in our church’s fellowship hall. They pray before and after each class.
Registration for story and science time is coming up as well.
Last week we took the children to Ripley’s Believe It or Not (mainly because our oldest wanted to see the Iron Man that was on the flyer). There was an interesting tunnel that I plan to share about later. And a 4D theater. It was a fun day, but a very full one! We also made stops at some favorite places on the way back.
Last week was the last week of our library’s summer reading challenge. I utterly failed with the children this year. We logged only a small fraction of what we read, and I even logged some of them wrong.
We did not make it to a single special event at the library.
The mom guilt has been a real struggle, that is for sure! I have to keep reminding myself that guilt is one of Satan’s favorite tools.
I also discovered that our newest little has upper lip and tongue ties. We have a consultation with a lactation consultant next week. We will see if getting them release is going to be an option. Hopefully it will allow him to nurse more effectively.
Also, if baby is fussy when you set them down, start up your vacuum. No lie, I might have left my vacuum running some this week! I got a small noise machine, but he does not seem to like it as much (maybe it is because the next to youngest keeps taking it?).

The Week in Review and The Aprons & Pearls Linkup

Rather frustrating week.
After wrangling the (four) children for a 5.5 hour sales pitch (that was supposed to be 90 minutes) at a time share place for a few vouchers for stays at their facilities, we found out that, while they knew since phone call #1 that we are a family of 6, the vouchers are only good for 4 people. No one told us during the first phone call. No one told us during check in. No one told us during the 5 hour sales pitch. No one told us when we checked out. Honestly, if it had been up to me I would have passed from the beginning, but hubby agreed to it. If anyone from Vacation Village Resorts and Affiliates offers you anything, just pass. It is not worth it.
Nothing much has gotten done around the house either. I am feeling motivated, but littlest man is nursing a lot, which is normal. It is a season that will pass. So this week has been filled with much cuddling, nursing, and Netflix. Chipping away at laundry one load at a time. Everything bottle necks at the dryer, and it has been raining since Saturday (and has a good chance of rain all week).
We are also pretty far behind on our summer reading challenge. The goal has been 20 minutes a day and 100 books over the summer. I am trying to be okay with it, there is only so much that we can do. We have read daily, but I have not paid attention to the clock when we do.
We did get to check out the Lego Americana Tour. The White House, Supreme Court Building, Liberty Bell, Statue of Liberty, Old North Church, Washington Memorial, and Lincoln Memorial in Legos-in pretty amazing detail. And a fun snow scene with a lot of the children’s favorite characters.
I am very grateful for all of the guests posts that have allowed me to not worry about the blog on top of everything else going on. This week the guest posts have been Biblical Encouragement For The Weary Mom, Slayed Yet Vindicated, and Don’t Judge Someone Based On One Piece of Their Puzzle.
There is an amazing sale going on over at Flirty Apron (check out the link in the sidebar). Up to 70% off, and one of my all-time favorite aprons-the Lindy- is included in the sale!

Guest Posts, Bucket List, and the Aprons & Pearls Linkup

A bit late today, sorry about that!
It has been a busy week. Yesterday was my first day on my own with all four children. It went well, though we ended up back at urgent care for nursemaids elbow with Danny, and we had a chiropractor appointment.
Our bucket list is going well. Wednesday we went to our local fireworks display. We also knocked rolling down a hill off the list. We kind of did our scavenger hunt. I ordered some liquid water colors to do bubble and water gun painting. We went to our first dollar movie. If you have a local Regal Cinema, you should check to see if they are participating in the Summer Movie Express. I am going to brave taking the four out to another movie on my own today. We will see how it goes.
Today is Cow Appreciation day, so if you have a Chick-fil-a, check it out (and get a free entrée).
The next couple of weeks is all about guest posts here. Yesterday’s was Biblical Encouragement for the Lonely Wife. Friday was Learning to Make the Changes You Need to Live Intentionally. Again, a big thank you to the contributors!

Change, Spring Bucket List Updates, and The Aprons & Pearls Linkup

This week has been pretty busy!
Tackled Mount Laundrious with the help of my mom and sister (who watched the children while mom and I folded and put away the mount).
Cleaned Wednesday, while I did not get everything done that I wanted, I did make progress.
Story time Thursday was a bit rough, the teacher was having a bad day and decided to take it out on my older children, which is disappointing (and upsetting to this pregnant, hormonal mama) because we have had her a few times since my oldest was D’s age, and she does the homeschool group at that library branch, which we plan to join in the autumn. We will see how the last couple of classes go though.
Science time made it a bit better where the teacher was super encouraging about D being in with the older children.
Then we had our midwives home visit to see our birth space and where we live.
Then, Thursday night I realized that I had hardly done much to prepare for our middle’s birthday party Sunday afternoon! So a planning session.
Cleaning, chiropractor, and party prep Friday.
Saturday hubby took the children out for the day, running errands and to a birthday party so that I could get stuff done. Then we met up for dinner out which was nice.
The children and daddy camped out in the living room (tent and all).
Sunday is usually a busy day, but birthday party Sundays are insane. Sunday school, church, potluck lunch, home to prep a few last minute things (we get home around 2, and parties usually start around 3 so that people that have to drive a distance do not have to do so in the dark through country roads).
Honestly, I was not in a party mood, and was really done before anyone got to our home, but pushed through.
Yesterday was my first day to really get a break in in about three weeks, which is way too long! I believe that there is a reason that God established the Sabbath! I hope to blog a bit about that later.
Our bucket list update is rather small, but this week we made some cards for some friends and people that could use some encouragement.  Our girlie has been on a card making kick ever since, which is so nice. She made a whole stack of cards for her AWANAS teachers, for the midwives, for friends…
Our garden has been growing like crazy. Our tomato plants are as high as I am. We have gotten more rain this week, which helps, but I think it might be the bone meal fertilizer that I used. I have never had plants this big!
Change is always hard for me, especially when it is something as big as the one Bible study teacher that has ever been encouraging of my bringing baby along to Bible study stepping down. Which is where I am finding myself now. D just went to nursery in February for the first time on Wednesday nights.
With the new little one due soon, it is a given that they will be with mama for a while. I am not sure yet what classes will be offered at our Wednesday night church, but I am hoping and praying hard that one accepting of our little one will be coming. If not, we will see how it goes.
We do keep our kids with us for worship service, and nurslings do not leave mama for the better part of their first two years. I have a post planned on children in worship for a later date (I have so many posts planned, but it is just finding time to get them out of my brain and into the computer!).
I am starting to turn my attention to the autumn a bit. We will be starting homeschooling officially then! New baby+homeschooling will make an interesting autumn!
Well, I have rambled on quite a bit, and I really need to get some laundry on the clothes line since it will be a nice day, and laundry always takes forever in the dryer.

Planning, Life, Bucket List Updates, and The Aprons & Pearls Linkup

Life is what happens when you are making plans, right?
This week has been crazier than a lot of them.
We had our first trip to urgent care…our littlest had a pulled elbow. That was a fun trip with all three kids in tow. Five years with kids and no urgent care visits was a good streak. They called the next day and said that they wanted to double-check something on the xray, so back we went. Thankfully it was after daddy was home and could watch the older ones. Everything was fine, but they had to double check.
We are preparing for our third homebirth. Our midwives come Thursday to see our birth space and talk about how we want the birth to go. Which means I am folding mount laundrious, preparing the house, and preparing the birth supplies. We are officially 36 weeks, so baby can come anytime they like (though I have a few things that I would like to get done first!).
Yesterday was Memorial Day here in the States, and we had a church picnic. It rained a bit, but thankfully we had shelter at the park to hide under. We did knock dancing in the rain, and splashing in puddles (and mud) off the spring bucket list. Well, two of the three kids played. B does not like to get muddy, so he was more careful.
Not on the bucket list, but we did find some lizards outside of the library on our way out last week. It’s been about as close to a nature walk as we have gotten. That one may roll over to another time.
We studied a lady bug that found us. Not quite a bug hunt, but I think we will count it that way. The kids really enjoyed watching it before we let it go.
Hubby and I enjoyed a date night thanks to my mom who is up here for a couple of days to help get things ready. That will be the last time without a nursling along for a while!
The garden is getting big. Nothing harvested yet, but we have some tomatoes growing.
I mentioned some recipe round ups that I was hoping to get done last week. Obviously that did not happen. With getting things ready for the birth, unexpected days at urgent care, and everything else, it was pretty low priority. I am hoping to get them scheduled this summer though, along with some fantastic guest posts from some lovely ladies that have offered to help fill up the summer here so I can take a bit of a break.
Mount laundrious is calling….

New Stuff, Bucket List Updates, and The Aprons & Pearls Linkup

What a week. It has been rainy day after rainy day for 8 days now. Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy as well. We might be going a little stir crazy.
We have had story time and science times, and went to a few play places, but we are missing the sun! It has been rough.
Our garden has benefited greatly from all of the rain though. It has been growing like crazy. The kids have enjoyed watching it grow and we have talked a lot about how plants grow.
This past Saturday we took our  kids to our favorite farm stand/market to pick strawberries. We found some plants with each stage of the bloom and fruit process which was a nice lesson.  They had fun even though they were pretty tired by the time we got there.
Yesterday we finally painted rocks. I need to get some sealant spray for the before we can hide them.
We have told some jokes and cooked some fresh veggies. I think I already mentioned that we got a good family picture Mother’s Day weekend.
Not on the bucket list officially, but we have been watching a lot of volcano videos lately, following the activity at Kilauea. They have been fascinated with volcanoes since a science time class about two years ago, so this has been incredibly interesting for them, and they are learning a lot!
So that is the spring bucket list update. I am starting to plan our summer bucket list, which may not be as successful as this spring one has been. This week I think we are going to make sun catchers, write cards, make a spring craft, and build a fort…we will see how it goes.
We got a new dishwasher in this weekend! I am rather excited.
This weekend I shared my cole slaw recipe, though I forgot to change the date on the draft, so it posted as being from a few years ago (yes, I have some old, dusty drafts waiting to finish and publish!). Yesterday I share my loaded broccoli salad recipe. It is always a hit. I think we have a picnic to go to on Memorial Day, and I am planning on taking it. Stay tuned for a Cookout Side Dish Round Up and a Burger Recipe Round Up later this week.
With Memorial Day coming up, please remember to talk to your children about what it is about. It is not just a day out of school (or the end of the school year for some). It is a day to stop and remember those who gave their lives in service to our country. Take some time to pray for the families that have been effected by their sacrifice. Do something for a family if you can.
This pregnancy is flying by! next week we have our 36 week home visit appointment. I have mount laundrious to fold and put away before then (as well as a whole list of things to be done, but getting our birth space done is priority at this point). I see a couple of late nights folding laundry in my future. I am gather the things that I want/need on hand for the birth.
I am loving using my beauty oil for my belly. It has really reduced the appearance of stretch marks. If you know a pregnant lady, I can highly recommend making her some! Leaves your skin so soft as well.
More plans have changed, the chicken that I ordered to do freezer meals for when baby comes now will not be in until after baby comes. A little perturbed there. Maybe it will be better to do it in smaller batches anyway instead of 40 pounds of chicken breast at a time? Still a wrench thrown into the plans, but that is the bright side to it I guess.
I am still open to taking guest posts, I would like to be able to schedule everything the first full week of June, so if you are interested there is still time! I have 6, with a few more on the way, I was really aiming for about 24, so not quite there. Please let me know if you are interested.
On to the linkup (which happens to be #75!)!

Busy week at home, quiet week on the blog!
Last week was rough, but we are off to a good start this week.
I did share some cheap and easy foot soak ideas.
That is about all for this week.
Oh, we have been watching our garden grow, had some fun with bubbles, had some family fun, and got some good family photos. Still have not broken out the paints for those rocks that I cleaned up last week…but we are chipping away at our bucket list!
On to the linkup!
