Aprons & Pearl Linkup

I had a few more posts that I wanted to finish up last week and get up, but our newest edition arrived Wednesday morning. I might write up and share his birth story soon. Everything went extremely well, and it was probably the best birth yet. We are doing well.
I have most of July scheduled with guests posts, I may or may not get to doing some more posts for June soon.
Thanks for joining us!
On to the linkup!

Aprons & Pearls Linkup

Yesterday I shared our Summer Family Bucket List. I am not sure how much of it we will get to, but it is a plan.
Last week, in honor of National Flip Flop Day, I shared how to pamper your feet with a non-toxic pedicure, and how to get perfect, flip-flop-ready paint job with Piggy Paint. I need to update my toesies, but they are a bit hard to reach at the moment!
I am getting this ready to go Monday night, and as of yet no little one. I usually love being pregnant and do not mind going over the estimated due date (which is really just an estimate), but baby is so low and making it pretty uncomfortable, so I am pretty much done.
It has been nice and warm, perfect clothes line weather, which means hopefully I will get caught up on laundry.
The children and I enjoyed our first tomato from the garden. If you have never had a fresh-off-the-plant-tomato, you just do not know what a tomato should taste like!
We also got some purple beans (thing green beans, only purple) in. I am hoping a few more of them are ready in the next day or so, so that we can all enjoy them for dinner. I cannot wait to show the children how to snap them. I have great memories of snaping beans with grandma and granddaddy for grandma to can them. That might just go on our summer bucket list!
AWANAs, story time, and science time are all out for the summer, which is somewhat nice. There are special events at the library throughout the summer though, but usually just once a week. Daddy will be home for a full 4 weeks after baby comes, so they will get to have some fun adventures with him.
Well, my laundry timer just went off. I am going to swap out laundry and get to bed just in case baby decides to make an appearance!

Non-Toxic DIY Pedicure

Tomorrow is National Flip Flop Day, are your feet ready? Here is a quick guide to the perfect natural pedicure.
How to get your feet ready for flip flop season, or just pamper yourself a bit, while ditching the toxic products. #flipflop #pedicure #diy #nontoxic #natural #greenmama #naturalbeauty #beauty #nails @godschicki

DIY Pedicure

{This post contains affiliate links. This means that I earn a small commission when you purchase through my link, but it does not change the price that you pay for your item.}
  • Remove old polish.
  • Soak feet 20-30 minutes in nice, hot water (careful not to burn yourself) and your choice of foot soak (I have a post with some here). For an added nice touch, put some marbles in the bottom of the bowl that you use so that you can roll your feet around and give them a massage while you wait.
  • Exfoliate. I use a rasp first to get the bulk of the dead skin off because I usually wait until it is pretty tough. Then I use a pumice stone to refine tough spots a bit more. Last I use a nice foot scrub (like my honey sugar or lovely lemon scrubs) all over, paying special attention to any spots left, or that I could not get with the rasp or stone very well (like around my big toe nail).
  • Apply and massage in cuticle oil (you can find my recipe here), then use stick or a wash cloth to push cuticles back a bit.
  • Trim nails, then file corners so that they do not become ingrown or snag things.
  • Buff nail beds. You can use a nice buffer that will leave a great shine for a natural look, or…
  • Paint your nails. I just shared a post on how to get a great paint job with Piggy Paint here.
  • Apply a nice, thick lotion or body butter. Moisture socks are a nice touch to keep lotion on and enhance its effectiveness.

Have you ever given yourself a pedicure?

Piggy Paint

Friday (June 15th) is National FlipFlop Day, so I am sharing my favorite way to pretty up my toesies.
I love having my toe nails painted. When we started our natural living journey I wondered if I would ever be able to have my toesies all pretty again-your nails and skin do absorb a lot. Then I found Piggy Paint.
It is water based and it is free of formaldehyde, toluene, phthalates, Bisphenol A, ethyl acetate, and acetone- ingredients that have been linked to many health issues yet are found in a lot of polishes out there. There are over 30 colors to choose from as well.
I was a bit skeptical of how well it would hold up at first, but it has actually lasted me much longer than the one professional pedicure that I have had!
How to get your toes ready for flip flop season with nontoxic Piggy Paint. #piggypaint #flipflop #nationalflipflopday #summer #pedicure #nails #nontoxic

How to Get Great Results From Your Piggy Paint

This post contains affiliate links. This means that when you make a purchase through my links, you do not pay more, but I earn a small commission.

Remember, when applying polishes, use three strokes of your brush and always go just under the tip of the nail as well as the nail bed.
Using the base and top coats is the key to getting the most out of your polish. It adds layers of chip and scratch resistance.

  • Remove any old polish.
  • Wash hands/feet and nails.
  • Apply an even layer of base coat and allow to dry to the touch (does not take very long).
  • Apply 2-3 even coats of color desired. Use a blow dryer on warm/low heat to dry for 60 seconds between coats for added chip resistance.
  • If you want to use any nail decals, now is the time to add those.
  • Apply coat of top coat and use blow dryer for 60 seconds.
  • Apply coat of base coat for added sealing and protection.

It takes a bit more work, but it does last quite a while on the toesies, and it is non-toxic, so it is something that I feel okay with using on my nails, as well as my little girlie’s nails.

There are some other cleaner brands of nail polish out there, but I do not have any experience with those. Perhaps in the future I will give them a shot and let you know!

Do you like painting your nails? Have you ever thought about what is in your nail polish? Have you tried Piggy Paint?

Bucket Lists and the Aprons & Pearls Linkup

Busy week at home, not so much on Timeless Mama!
I am working on scheduling some of the awesome guest posts that have come in. I am quite excited about them. The ladies that have helped out are some fantastic writers.
I am also going to schedule out the Aprons & Pearls Linkups for the summer. Maybe longer…we will see how time is running today.
We had a midwife appointment yesterday. Little one should be here within 3-4 weeks.  We are at 38 now, our first was born at 39+2, our middle was 41+2, and our youngest was 40 exactly, so we have no ideas what to expect this time. Except that baby will likely be around 8 pounds, and 21 inches long, just like the other babies. If there was some way to tell how much baby weights we could probably predict when they will make their appearance!
Part of me is ready to have baby, part of me is not! Lots to do still, but I am not moving fast these days!
We attended a local festival this weekend and had a great time. Saw some tall ships, learned about pirates, walked around tons, hid some of our painted rocks (we know a lot of them were found because when we came back through they were gone, the children were so excited!), got a bit dehydrated, got sunburned, and saw some fireworks. I also got to shop a bit with our girlie. She was so excited to find a chair for her doll house (really a cell phone chair, but it works very well for her dolls).
Our spring bucket list is not quite all done, but we have accomplished much of it. We still have a couple of weeks until summer though, so we might just do it.
Hubby caught a spiders in one of our bug catcher things. Our youngest just happens to love “itsy bitsy spider” right now and thinks that it is great.`
I have started tentatively planning out our summer bucket list. With baby coming a lot of things are still up in there air, but I want to have some ideas ready to go. I will be sharing those Monday.
The boys have gotten into Legos lately. Like, the small, worst-pain-in-the-world-if-you step-on-them sort. Sunday night, our oldest learned the hard way not to stick them up his nose. Thankfully daddy was able to coach him on blowing it out. He was freaked out enough that I do not think he will try it again. Needless to say, everyone got a “You never stick anything in your nose or ears” lecture.
Hubby and I were talking about the children the other night. Our first born is a shy, reserve, careful fellow. Our middle is rather reckless, not necessarily meaning to be crazy, just not paying attention. Our (current) youngest is the daredevil, knowing what he’s doing. It will be interesting to see what our new one will be like.
This is our last week of regular activities. AWANAS, story time, and science time all wrap up this week. There will be special programs at the library, and our summer reading challenge there, but nothing regular.
We got this kiddie pool set up this week. It was a nice, hot week, so the children enjoyed it.
They also camped out in the backyard with daddy-twice. They could probably spend the summer in the tent, but poor daddy does not sleep too well on the ground. We might have to get him a yoga mat or something.

Change, Spring Bucket List Updates, and The Aprons & Pearls Linkup

This week has been pretty busy!
Tackled Mount Laundrious with the help of my mom and sister (who watched the children while mom and I folded and put away the mount).
Cleaned Wednesday, while I did not get everything done that I wanted, I did make progress.
Story time Thursday was a bit rough, the teacher was having a bad day and decided to take it out on my older children, which is disappointing (and upsetting to this pregnant, hormonal mama) because we have had her a few times since my oldest was D’s age, and she does the homeschool group at that library branch, which we plan to join in the autumn. We will see how the last couple of classes go though.
Science time made it a bit better where the teacher was super encouraging about D being in with the older children.
Then we had our midwives home visit to see our birth space and where we live.
Then, Thursday night I realized that I had hardly done much to prepare for our middle’s birthday party Sunday afternoon! So a planning session.
Cleaning, chiropractor, and party prep Friday.
Saturday hubby took the children out for the day, running errands and to a birthday party so that I could get stuff done. Then we met up for dinner out which was nice.
The children and daddy camped out in the living room (tent and all).
Sunday is usually a busy day, but birthday party Sundays are insane. Sunday school, church, potluck lunch, home to prep a few last minute things (we get home around 2, and parties usually start around 3 so that people that have to drive a distance do not have to do so in the dark through country roads).
Honestly, I was not in a party mood, and was really done before anyone got to our home, but pushed through.
Yesterday was my first day to really get a break in in about three weeks, which is way too long! I believe that there is a reason that God established the Sabbath! I hope to blog a bit about that later.
Our bucket list update is rather small, but this week we made some cards for some friends and people that could use some encouragement.  Our girlie has been on a card making kick ever since, which is so nice. She made a whole stack of cards for her AWANAS teachers, for the midwives, for friends…
Our garden has been growing like crazy. Our tomato plants are as high as I am. We have gotten more rain this week, which helps, but I think it might be the bone meal fertilizer that I used. I have never had plants this big!
Change is always hard for me, especially when it is something as big as the one Bible study teacher that has ever been encouraging of my bringing baby along to Bible study stepping down. Which is where I am finding myself now. D just went to nursery in February for the first time on Wednesday nights.
With the new little one due soon, it is a given that they will be with mama for a while. I am not sure yet what classes will be offered at our Wednesday night church, but I am hoping and praying hard that one accepting of our little one will be coming. If not, we will see how it goes.
We do keep our kids with us for worship service, and nurslings do not leave mama for the better part of their first two years. I have a post planned on children in worship for a later date (I have so many posts planned, but it is just finding time to get them out of my brain and into the computer!).
I am starting to turn my attention to the autumn a bit. We will be starting homeschooling officially then! New baby+homeschooling will make an interesting autumn!
Well, I have rambled on quite a bit, and I really need to get some laundry on the clothes line since it will be a nice day, and laundry always takes forever in the dryer.
