Martial Arts, Frustrations, & The Aprons and Pearls Linkup

This past week has been filled with activity and frustration.
Our second week of martial arts classes at our dojo (karate for the kids, krav maga for myself and my husband). There’s a bit of time between classes, almost too much to stay, but definitely not enough to go home. We will play around some with what we will do during that time. School work most likely once we really start, some reading of library books perhaps. If all else fails, the children love drawing, so I might just stock up on notebooks.
Krav was interesting. I am having to modify or sit out of some of the pre-defense portion of the class because it is a bunch of exercises that I can not do at the moment due to my diastasis recti (abdominal separation). I am also doing some core building exercises on my own to help with the DR.
Trying to get into better shape, but balancing it with getting enough calories to keep my milk supply up, and over tax my adrenals.
Life has been taxing enough for the adrenals!
Trying to get our religious exemptions from our children’s old doctor in time to register for school. I have been trying to get them for a month now and it has just been a nightmare. Our old doctor’s quirkiness use to be interesting, but now it is a huge source of stress. He does not have full-time office hours, so I only have certain days that I can go in. He shares an office that we have gone to, so he keeps records off site. He uses an answering service, so there is no direct calling him. You have to call and wait for him to call back.
I finally got up with him and arranged to pickup our records Friday. His office is across town, so it is a 30 minute drive. The children had lost their minds just before we left the house. We got to the office and no one was there. Call to the answering service, and waiting for him to call back.
Turns out he forgot a continuing education meeting that day and would not be in the office. He thought that when I said the 15th that I somehow meant the 15th of September (I specifically said Virginia requires the notice of intent to homeschool, along with required documents by AUGUST 15th), and we had plenty of time, so he was not bothered by urgency.
I nearly lost it. I informed him that when I first started we did have plenty of time. That I would already have to drag the children out to hand deliver it to the office because he had taken so long.
I get a twitch in my eye when I get really stressed. It has been a while since I have had one, but I got one that day.
After a stressful week, including a night of hormonal ugly crying and being physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted the next day, it was nearly the straw that broke the camel’s back.
We just had them redone. It is not hard, but still extra for me to do. We have yet to get the records. Good times.
That is all on top of juggling nursing most of the day,  getting homeschool stuff figured out, trying to get things around the room caught up on the house, and all of the other stay at home jobs.
I have plastered the house with verses on renewing my mind, putting on love and the garment of praise, and just to encourage me. Satan is great at using life to cut us down, to try to discourage us, to pile on the guilt. The Word is the best weapon we have.
We have decided on Konos for our main curriculum. We will supplement math and phonics with some other workbooks.
This past weekend we got in some good science lessons. We took a nice walk around the neighborhood at my grandma’s and while out at the park we talked about the different types of leaves that we found and found the trees that they come from, found a cicada shell (Danny loved it. For the record, I never would have picked it up before I had children!), observed how sensitive plants close up when touched, found mushrooms (and talked about how we do not eat wild mushrooms unless someone trained in identifying them has cleared them), observed gnats in spider webs (they are plentiful in that area!), talked about how acorns grow really big trees… learning does not just happen in the class room.
Tomorrow our youngest and I will be seeing a lactation consultant about his oral ties. She needs to see if she would recommend having them revised because they are affecting his nursing. I am fairly certain that they are. Once I have her recommendation the local pediatric dentist that does revisions will schedule having his ties released. Not something I am looking forward to, but if it helps him we need to have it done.
I really have had to start using a planner for appointments. We have so much going on, and it is not even autumn yet! If I do not write it down or put it in my phone I am sunk!
The Ultimate Healthy Living Bundle Sale is coming up, so stay tuned! I will be sharing more about it in the coming weeks. There are some amazing resources, as always.
I have a couple more guest posts that I will try to get up this week, then I will try to get back to posting a new post at least once a week. We will see how that goes. While blogging is my creative outlet, it is rather low priority at the moment.
Yesterday, Lillie shared a bit about her journey.
I have noticed that clicks on the linkups are down, please, I am not going to put a number of how many links you much check out, but take some time to check out the content that others are leaving. Thank you for participating!

The Kingdom of the Journey {Guest Post}

A big thank you to all of the contributors that have helped give me a bit of a break this summer!

The Kingdom of the Journey

Sharing the journey #testimony #journey #allergies #trust #jesus @gosdchicki
Just before my husband and I got engaged, we went to a Christian conference at the time (Soul Survivor UK) and there was a fantastic talk on “The kingdom of now and not yet” which we took great comfort in, especially as my father-in-law was very ill at the time.

The talk encouraged us that God’s will will be done. That when we seek and petition Him with our prayers He always answers, whether we hear and see a yes or a no, or a not yet. He is invested in our situation and His will will be done in our lives and our healing, even if that manifests as a “not yet” because His healing can come in death when we join Him. He always gives an answer, even if it’s not the one we want or expect.

We took comfort in this when we lost my father-in-law, we took comfort in this when we had our eldest son and then when I was hospitalised because my gallbladder ruptured. We have continued to take comfort in this with the trials and tribulations life has thrown at us.

When we had our second son his health was never quite right, from irregular stools from 4 days old, to eczema following his vaccinations which turned out to be symptomatic of an immune hypersensitivity triggered and exacerbated by them. This began a challenging voyage into identifying why his immune system was haywire, and how we could support his healing. Then came identifying the dozens upon dozens of food and environmental triggers that can causing anything from flushing to anaphylaxis.

There are few things in life as scary as holding your 18m old in your arms as their lips turn blue because of respiratory distress, triggered by a dust-mite allergy.

Before that reaction we had felt God speak to us as a family and assure us that this would not be to the death, but for the journey.

Though, when your child is being starved of oxygen before your eyes the fears slip in…

…what if I misunderstood God.

…what if our journey includes caring for a child that is neurological or otherwise damaged from oxygen deprivation?

We don’t know what our journey’s will hold. But we can trust in God.

For we know He works for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes.

Which brings me back to the kingdom of the journey…

God has gifted us with free will, and the responsibility of stewardship of the dominion He has put us in. As a global scale we have neglected and abused this responsibility, now our collective health is suffering.

We live in a world plagued by illnesses, autoimmune diseases, neurological conditions and mental health disorders, cancers and so much more. Our bodies don’t function in the way they should because our environment, stressors, medications and nutrition have manipulated our genetic expression to make us more prone to being ill. We have entered the first generation that predict children won’t live as long as their parents.

This is not progress.

So, it’s our responsibility to bring the kingdom in our journeys.

People share testimonies all the time of salvation and healing, which – Hallelujah – is worth rejoicing over; BUT we need to bring our testimonies of the journey.

That salvation isn’t the end of our transformation, that miraculous healing isn’t the only kind worth talking about. We need to share our lives testimony. Through the ups and downs, battles with the normative practices that have played such a huge role in the condition of our world and health. We need to bring God’s glory back and rejoice in His kingdom where we are.

Be the change you want to see in the world, is a cliche for a reason. But we are called to lead by example, in our faith, which should include our stewardship of our health and our environment both close to us and on a global scale.

The Kingdom of the journey, to me, is trusting God’s will and plan for our lives, because even though miracles do happen, the bigger witness can be to bring glory and healing through the trials and stewardship of our lives.

Life Update, Guests Posts, Homeschool Prep, and the Aprons & Pearls Linkup

I completely spaced the linkup last week until Thursday night! We had some family come in Thursday night, so last week was a blur trying to get things done. I do apologize.
It has been busy around here.
We found a curriculum for our homeschooling that will kickoff the Tuesday after Labor Day. It is all a bit overwhelming. I am trying to pin down a schedule. I have never really cared for schedules, but we will definitely need one this autumn. I will likely post more about starting up in a while.
I ventured to the local homeschool book store last week and inquired about Konos curriculum. They had the first volume. They held them for me while I discussed it with hubby. We decided to give it a try. When I went back to get it, the lady brought out volumes 2 & 3. Someone had brought them in to give away. So, for the (discounted) price of one volume, we got all three. They are older editions, so I will be hole punching and putting them in a binder. Because I need another project! But it will be a lot easier to use. The first volume is coming apart.
The children have started karate. Last week was our first week. Two days a week we will end up spending quite a bit of time at our dojo. The children have their classes from about 3:45-4:45. Hubby and I have  Krava Maga classes at 6:45-7:45. So I will be packing dinner for our family to eat there since there is not much time in between and loading and unloading the children into the car is silly.
It really is a great dojo that we have found. It is a Christian business. It actually started in our church’s fellowship hall. They pray before and after each class.
Registration for story and science time is coming up as well.
Last week we took the children to Ripley’s Believe It or Not (mainly because our oldest wanted to see the Iron Man that was on the flyer). There was an interesting tunnel that I plan to share about later. And a 4D theater. It was a fun day, but a very full one! We also made stops at some favorite places on the way back.
Last week was the last week of our library’s summer reading challenge. I utterly failed with the children this year. We logged only a small fraction of what we read, and I even logged some of them wrong.
We did not make it to a single special event at the library.
The mom guilt has been a real struggle, that is for sure! I have to keep reminding myself that guilt is one of Satan’s favorite tools.
I also discovered that our newest little has upper lip and tongue ties. We have a consultation with a lactation consultant next week. We will see if getting them release is going to be an option. Hopefully it will allow him to nurse more effectively.
Also, if baby is fussy when you set them down, start up your vacuum. No lie, I might have left my vacuum running some this week! I got a small noise machine, but he does not seem to like it as much (maybe it is because the next to youngest keeps taking it?).
On to the linkup!
