Aprons & Pearls Linkup #59

Not much is new this week. A real off week for me.
I am working on a few posts that I am really excited about, so keep an eye out for those. I am chipping away at them, little by little.
On to the linkup!

Updates, Bundles, and The Aprons & Pearls Linkup #58

It looks like we might make it to church Wednesday night! After the roads being icy the last three weeks, the weather forecast is not calling for snow. I do love snow though…
Friday I started my GreenTree Jewelry earring giveaway. I will be posting the winning a bit later today (it is my one day to try to sleep in a bit this week!).

{The following are affiliate links. This means that, while the price you pay does not change, I get a small commission.}

This week is a big week in the Ultimate Bundles community. It is the Ultimate Bundles Festival. Each day this week you can snag a different bundle for a great price, or, if you want, you can snag all of them for just $67
ubfest20email20banner_01-2

Monday: Healthy Living | Tuesday: Parenting | Wednesday: Herbs & Essential Oils | Thursday: Fitness | Friday: Clutter

If you would like more information on the bundles, including a list of the resources included, you can click on the links above. I love Ultimate Bundles, and I have yet to be disappointed in one. I actually just got the Herbs and Essential Oils Bundle and cannot wait to use it.
Yesterday I shared some Family Dinner Games to help make National Sunday Supper month a bit more fun. I shared a while back about having Intentional Family Dinners and how important they are.
I have been trying to take advantage of hubby being home this past week to get things decluttered and organized a bit better. I got a lot done. Not everything that I had hoped, but I made such progress. It is getting there. Now to regain the downstairs this week (I worked upstairs last week, so I lost a little ground downstairs, though dishes and laundry are pretty well in hand)!
Hubby and I had a date night thanks to my mom who came and watched the kids.
I am still trying to balance outing days. Trying to get past the feeling that they are unproductive. I think it is just the mental energy that it takes to get everything that we need, get the kids ready, and get them loaded up in the car…
Grocery shopping has been less of a thing the past few months. I have gotten most everything we need through grocery pickup. I plan to write a post on that later.
Have you ever purchased a bundle from Ultimate Bundles? Which one most interests you? How do you make sure that outing days are still productive at home?

Family Dinner Games

I shared the other day how important intentional family dinners are. Here are some great games and conversation starters to help you connect with your family, as well as help your kids learn language skills (among other things).
Family Dinner Games @godschicki
The Green Glass Door is a fun game to play, as are going on a picnic, first letter last letterI SPY,  and fortunately unfortunately.

The following are affiliate links. This means that if you purchase through this link I get a small commission, while your purchase price is unchanged.

Dinner Games

Beginner Dinner Games
We have the Beginner Dinner Games set, some of them are still over out children’s heads (our oldest is almost 5), but there are a lot of them that we have enjoyed.

Family Talk.

Conversation Cards
This one is fun because it doubles as a card game.

After Dinner Conversations-Get Smart Trivia Questions

Melissa and Doug Conversation Starters

Q’s Race to the Top On-the-Go Pack: fun questions and activities for practicing social skills, manners, and emotional control!
This one is a lot of fun, but not all of it is doable at the table (crab walking is not really doable at the table), but a lot of it is fine for table time. I really like that it teaches how to handle emotions and how to think things through.

Table Topics

(click on the images below to check them out, or click here to see all of the available sets)
This one is really fun, but there are many editions for almost every occasion.

What are your favorite games to play at the table? Have you tried any of these?

GreenTree Earring Giveaway

I am very excited to share one of my favorite ways to make myself feel girlier. Even if I am feeling a bit frumpy, putting on a pretty pair of earring always makes me feel better.
Enter GreenTree. I first stumbled on them a few years ago in Texas. On a return trip I picked up a few more pairs.
GreenTree Earring Giveaway @godschicki
These earrings are so light that you might forget you are wearing them. They use a strong, thin multi layered wood (purchased from Certified FSC™ Suppliers), strengthened even more by putting it together in a criss-cross fashion. I have yet to have a pair break (even with young children occasionally getting into them).
I am pretty excited about this giveaway.  I have a code for a free pair of GreenTree Earrings to giveaway (It is good for 1 pair of earrings priced at 14.95 + shipping cost).
You can check out their site here.
They also have studs and smaller “blossom” dangle earrings if you do not like bigger ones. They have so many designs (and most designs are available in several colors) that I am sure that you can find just the perfect pair for you!

(Giveaway closes Monday night at 12)

Winner will be announced Tuesday in the Apron and Pearls Linkup Post. Good Luck!

Nourishing Cuticle Oil

Part of a great, natural manicure, this easy cuticle oil works wonders on dry cuticles and nails. I really could have used this when I worked as a card merchandiser! My hands got so dry handling cards all day.
More on the natural manicure part later, but for now, here is the recipe I use for my cuticles.
If you have not already read it, please check out this post on Essential Oil Safety before using any essential oils.

This ‘recipe’ contains affiliate links. While it does not change the price of the item you click on, I do get a small commission if you purchase it through my link.

Nourishing Cuticle Oil @godschicki

Nourishing Cuticle Oil

Add essential oils to roller bottle, top off with carrier oil and shake.
For best benefits, use every other day, though I only get around to it once a week or so!
Just roll liberally on cuticles and nails, massage into cuticles and nails, and gently push cuticles back with a damp wash cloth or cuticle stick.

A Look Ahead and The Aprons & Pearls Linkup

It has been a busy week here, then again, I guess it always is.
I am pretty excited about a giveaway that I have planned coming up. I have a code for a free pair of GreenTree Earrings to giveaway (It is good for 1 pair of earrings priced at 14.95 + shipping cost.). I love their earrings and I cannot wait to share them with you!
Last week I shared the importance of having regular family dinners. I have a post scheduled for later this week on some dinner games and conversation starters. In case you missed it, January is national Sunday Supper Month.
This week hubby is off of work, so I am in major decluttering and cleaning mode. Trying to have the most productive days that I can. Yesterday I tackled our master bedroom and mount laundrious in there. I am not quite done, I need to hang my clothes up in the closet and put away the children’s clothes, but I am very happy with what I have accomplished.
Today, after our chiropractor appointments, I am tackling our upstairs bathroom and our dressing room, as well as finishing in our room.
Do not forget to stay hydrated! It is just as important in the winter months when the heat in our homes is on, and keeps the air quite dry. It is key to helping dry winter skin and being productive!
This week also see story times and science time starting back for 6 weeks. I cannot encourage you enough to check out your local library. Many have great programs that encourage literacy and learning. If your little has a hard time with trying a new program, please hang in there. It takes time to learn how to behave in new situations. I always try to remember to remind my littles of how we behave in story time and science time before we go in. It is not always smooth sailing, but it helps a lot.
Ultimate Bundles is having some flash sales next week, including The Healthy Living Bundle, and the Parenting Bundle. Be sure to follow @TimelessMama on Facebook to snag these great deals!
We are expecting more snow on Wednesday. I am somewhat excited. I hope that it gives us enough to play in a bit, but it would mean that church activities will likely be cancelled again (for the third week in a row-after a two week break for Christmas and New Years!).

Intentional Family Dinners

 Intentional Family Dinners @godschicki

Family dinners are something that are becoming less and less common. Between extracurricular activities, and work we are busier than ever. Conversation and connecting are becoming lost arts.
Being intentional about passing on our faith is something that is vital to Christian parents. Having a dinner as a family is a great opportunity to pass along faith. While not every meal or conversation will be about faith, it does often provide teachable moments, as well as relationship to build them up in the faith. A lot more is caught than taught. Seeing you make family time a priority will set them up well for the future.
I firmly believe that quantity time leads to quality time. If we try to force quality time, many times is only stressful, yet if we have quantity time, quality time, those moments that you and your kids will remember, tend to just happen.
I understand many parents want their kids in lots of activities for various reasons, but if you are constantly running, please show them how to slow and enjoy what is really important.
Faith at Home is something that I have shared about before.

“Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

“Rules without relationship leads to rebellion.” -Andy Stanley
If we want our children to see our faith as more than rules, we need to model it for them, and relationship is key. Family dinners are such an important tool.
Even the secular world is acknowledging the benefits of family dinners.
Having dinner as a family has been shown to have many benefits including promoting literacy in young childrenreduced risk of obesity, better mental health for teens, improved academics, as well as reduce the risk of substance abuse.
Children that eat with their parents tend to be more adventurous eaters.
It is a great time to practice good manners (another lost art I fear), compassion, forgiveness, joy, respect, patients, kindness, self-control, and empathy.
You show and pass along your family values during dinners together.
It might not be easy if you are making this as a big change, but it is well worth it. Just set your mind to it, and understand that there will be an adjustment period.
Put the phones in a basket away from the table. Give your undivided attention to those around you.
Meals do not need to be fancy. Real food does not have to take long or be complicated. (You can check out my review of 100 Days of Real Food Fast and Fabulous here, and the 100 Days of Real Food Blog is a fantastic resource)
These resources are not Christian, but they offer some great tools and information:
The Family Dinner Project Benefits of Family Dinners  (They have a ton of resources including conversation starters)
It’s Science:Eat Dinner Together
This year, let’s take time to be intentional about breaking bread together as a tool to pass along our faith.

Snow Days and The Aprons & Pearls Linkup

This past week has been a rather exciting one.
I love snow. It is one of my favorite things ever. We started the week with a possibility of snow. By Tuesday night it was a more serious possibility.
Wednesday we ventured out for some staples, with the thought that by the weekend we could make the usual Costco trip.
We went out for the first time Monday for our midwife appointment. Five days later.
Wednesday the dryer door switch gave out…so snow things had to air dry, hung up in the bathroom and door frames. Like the rest of the laundry done this week (which has not been much, due to running out of spaces to hang it). The part has been ordered, but hubby and I spent part of our anniversary yesterday hot wiring the dryer.
It has been so much fun to play in the snow though. The big kids are finally big enough to enjoy it with. D is young enough that it is harder for him to move all bundled up.
Snow angels, snow ball fights, trying to build a snowman…the snow would not pack well, but it was fun trying. Hopefully some good memories made.
I did get a few posts up, sharing the free app that I use to check products for toxic chemicals and my diy beauty oil.
January is mentoring month. Have you found a mentor? Are you mentoring someone else?
It is also Sunday Supper month. I am planning some posts on family dinners later this week.
On to the linkup!

Beauty Oil

This beauty oil has been a fairly recent addition to my (minimal) beauty routine. I played around with a few different oils, but finally settled on these.

This post contains affiliate links. That means that, though the price does not change, I get a small commission if you purchase items through these links.

Beauty Oil @godschicki

Beauty Oil

Simply our oils in and give a good shake. Apply 3-4 squirts to face and neck daily, gently. You do not want to pull on skin.
*If you have a tree nut allergy, you will want to be careful if you have not used argan oil before. It is not a nut, but from the stones of fruit, but has been known to cause a similar reaction.
There are many oils that you can use, but I really like these for their non-greasy feel, quick absorption, and anti-aging properties. I use it in the morning since I tend to have my face on my pillow most of the night. It leave my skin incredibly soft.
Rose hip oil contains Vitamins A, C, & F as well as antioxidants and fatty acid. Moisturizing and brightening skin. It helps skin regain elasticity. Minimizes wrinkles and stretch marks (I have been using it on my tummy lately and love it!). It can reduce the effects of eczema as well as dark spots.
Argan oil contains Vitamins A & E, as well as omega 6 fatty acid, and linoneic acid. It reduces wrinkles, tones, helps with acne, reduces stretch marks, and has an anti-aging effect.
There are some essential oils that are good for skin, but I am not a fan of daily use even when I am not expecting, and when I am expecting I try to only use oils if needed, so I would suggest using a smaller pump bottle if you want to do some with rose hip and argan oils with the desired essential oils, so that you can use it a few times a week, alternating with the plain oils.

The Free App I Use To Keep Toxic Chemicals Out Of Our Home

One of our goals is to do things as naturally, and toxin free as we can. Many of today’s products (cosmetic, personal care, and cleaning products) are loaded with chemicals that have been linked to a myriad of health issues (cancer, fertility issues, etc). Finding clean products is not always easy.
The App The I Use To Check Products For Toxic Chemicals @godschicki
The Think Dirty app is somewhat useful, though it’s rather outdated on some things and lists some questionable products as okay.
Ingredio allows you to take or upload a picture of the product in question’s ingredients, it converts it to text and breaks down the product for you, giving you the general rating, as well as the ingredients information pages so that you can see what the hazards are. And it is free.

How to Get Started

I know that it is available in Google Play, I do not know if it is available for the iPhone.
Download the app. It is pretty easy there!

Take a Picture

Take a picture of the ingredients list on that bottle of shampoo or lotion before you get it. You can snap the picture, and crop it so that the ingredients are the only text visible (makes it a bit faster).

View Products Report

See the overall risks associated with the products, and each ingredient’s hazard statements and information.

This is a great, easy way to check products before you buy them. I have even screen capped ingredients online and used the app.
I hope that this app helps you get those toxins out of your home!
