Aprons & Pearls

It has been a busy week to say the least. Food preparations, cleaning, family gatherings, shopping, sickness…not a dull or down moment.
Traditionally I like to get our tree up the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but this year we had our big extended family gathering at my Aunt’s so I had planned to do it Friday, but we spent more time out of the house than in, so it got bumped to Sunday, and then yesterday. Today is the day though. It will be happening. I am breaking out the cocoa, cookies, and Christmas movies (or music if I get the kids to nap!)…The kids will remember the decorating, not the date at this point.
I can listen to Christmas music or watch the movies all year long. I love Christmas. It’s my favorite time of year.
Traditions of the season are something I love as well. We are still working on ours, and they are pretty simple, but I still love them.
I had planned to get a post about Christ centered Christmas/Advent Ideas yesterday, but with hubby home sick I was taking care of him too, so it didn’t get done. I am hoping to get it out tomorrow, so please check back!
Hubby is home sick for the second day today, so I am working on boosting everyone’s immune system.
What are some of your traditions? How do you keep Christ the focus of Christmas?

Aprons & Pearls Linkup

Just a friendly reminder in this crazy week: you are the salt and light Jesus talks about. As Christ followers, we are called to be Peculiar, Drunk (in the Spirit), to have Grace Filled Speech, and to Dress for each day. (As well as Overflow with Thankfulness if you missed last week’s post)
I know I often need that reminder when dealing with the crowds of people with seemingly no Christmas Spirit (or maybe just a me, me, me Christmas Spirit?). People can stress us out.  Remember to put on love. It binds all things together. It covers a multitude of offenses.
As you are preparing for your gatherings, remember to take time with God and feed your soul. You cannot pour from an empty vessel. Do not let your business eclipse God in your life this week! Take some time to be still in His presence.
If you are looking for natural ways to make your home smell good for your guests, you can put on a pot of Wassail, or check out these other ways to make your home smell good. There are a bunch of diffuser ideas for autumn that you can use, or maybe you want one to boost your mood and energy before your guests come.
Do not forget the importance of sleep and hydration! It is so easy to forget to take a water break, and buy into the “we can sleep after _______” mentality so prevalent in our society.
I shared my how to have a productive day last week, but there it is if you missed it. I know I need today and tomorrow to be very productive!
Life has been crazy here, but I am trying to remember that it is my mission field. I am more than just a mom. I am a stay at home missionary.

Thanksgiving Reflections and the Aprons & Pearls Link-up

This is a bit late today, very sorry for that. It has been a busy week, and yesterday was one of those days. Baby cutting teeth, big kid finding their big Christmas gift, pregnancy hormones, anniversary of Granddaddy’s passing, bad news about an elderly neighbor from my hometown, rain, a girlie pushing her limits, mount laundrious not getting folded…I completely spaced the linkup.
I wanted to share this Thanksgiving Challenge with you again. You can really start it anytime, and do it as long as you like. I want to see who will do it with me next week, for the entire week.
As things get crazy next week, let us remember to overflow with thankfulness. Remember as you are braving the pre-Thanksgiving grocery store, running around the kitchen cooking, or Black Friday Shopping, you are representing Christ. Be different. Be kind. Courteous. Respectful. Be the Light in the darkness.
Need to make next week more productive? Check out How to Have a More Productive Day. You can apply the principles to the whole week, planning it out and preparing as much as you can.
Want to make grocery shopping easier next week? Here is how I do it, with little kids.
Christmas is coming up, if you need gift ideas, please check out Gifts That Support Families and Gift Ideas for Essential Oil Users.

What are some of your Thanksgiving Traditions? How is your autumn bucket list coming?

Gifts That Give Back

Gifts That Support Families @godschicki

Gift Ideas The Support Families

Want a more unique Christmas gift? How about one that helps support a family?
These are some of my favorite products, and they help support families around the country. All of these ladies are in education, some at home, some in public school. Many of these companies are Christian based, which I like as well.

Small Business Saturday vs Black Friday

Small business Saturday is the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the day after Black Friday. It is a day that encourages people to shop small, supporting small businesses and families. I personally love the idea.
These are not affiliate links. I am not getting any sort of commission for them. I just want to help get the word out about these products, and help these ladies support their families.

Thirty-One Totes With Brittany

Thirty-One offers a wide variety of bags and organizational products, as well as a decor and jewelry line. Their site (and Pinterest) are full of amazing ideas for using their products.
I have several Thirty-One items including the Creative Caddy, Littles Carry-All Caddy, Double Duty Caddy, the Tall Organizing Tote and the Zip Top Organizing Utility Tote to name a few.
Brittany is a school teacher who loves helping her students learn.

LillaRose

LillaRose is a line of hair accessories. Headbands, u-pins, flexi clips, bobby pins, badge clips, and the flexi o clips make up their catalogue.
I only have two of the flexi clips, but I love them! They can be a bit more of an investment, but I think that they are well worth is. I love my flexi clips. They hold hair securely, without necessarily holding it tight (so I can make a looser style, and I do not get a face lift when I put the clip in like when I put in a hair claw). Mom confession, I have slept in my flexi clip, and gone out the next day without having redone my hair. There are so many different ways to wear them as well.
Janet is a homeschool mom, and is one of the best example of the Proverbs 31 and the Titus 2 women that I know of. She also blogs over at Homemaking 4 His Glory.

Hello Cozy Handmade Accessories

Hello Cozy is a small business that sell handmade crocheted items.  Wash cloths, scarves, cowls, hats, headbands, boot cuffs, and ear warmers make up the bulk of their shop.
Kim is a homeschool mom of 3 littles.

Mary & Martha Home

Inspired by Mary and Martha in the Bible, this company seeks to help encourage hospitality and serving your community.
I have some beautiful mugs that I love from Mary & Martha. Their items are pretty pricey, but they frequently have great sales.
Johanna is a homeschool mom, she has also co-founded the Christian Online Trade Market.

Stitchin’ Pretties

This one is a little more outside the box, but I love Allison’s reuseable pads.
Beautiful materials and quality sewing make these a great score for any lady.
Allison is a homeschool mom.

Lemongrass Spa

I have shared about my struggle with wanting to wear make-up, and how I do not wear it often. Between wanting to set an example for my girlie, and the junk that is in today’s makeup, it just does not happen much.
When I do wear it, I use Lemongrass Spa. The products are hands down the cleanest that I have found. Many of their products are also organic. I absolutely love their mascara.
Lemongrass Spa is doing a special Feedom Feet Campaigne to send our military members some pampering for their feet.
Anita is a homeschool mom.
I hope that these give you some good ideas for your gift giving needs!
If you missed the big announcement earlier this week, please take a minute to check it out here!
Do you have a small business? Do you do shop small businesses?

Some News and The Aprons & Pearls Linkup

It has been a very busy week here, and we found out some exciting news.

D is being promoted next summer!
Today is election day, so if you have anything to vote on, get out there and vote! Being a part of the process is so important.
Saturday is Veteran’s Day. Be sure to share with your kids why they get Friday off from school, and thank veterans that you might know and their families.
My mother in law was in town this past week, so no other new posts to share with you today. Hopefully next week there will be one or two.
